POLICE warned parents to be on the alert after two men tried to snatch a three-year-old boy from the garden of his home.

The attempt happened yesterday afternoon when two boys were playing with their mother in the garden of their home just 50 yards from a main road in Bradford Abbas, near Sherborne, Dorset.

The woman had to go into the house for a few minutes and returned to see two men by the fence.

One was leaning over the fence proffering sweets in his hand and the other was lifting one boy over the fence.

The mother challenged the men, who fled.

Sergeant Julian Snook of Dorset Police said: 'We are most concerned about this incident and would ask people in charge of children to be vigilant.'

One man was in his 40s and 5ft 10ins to 6ft tall, the other aged between 35 and 40.
