David Higginson, a 12-year-old Scout, of Grappenhall, Cheshire, died in a 400m (1,300ft) fall down a mountainside at Nantgwynant, Snowdonia. In Scotland, Douglas Hartley, 27, of Rutherglen, near Glasgow, was rescued by RAF helicopter from a narrow ledge after suffering head injuries and a broken arm in an 18m (60ft) fall on Stob na Broige, Glencoe.
