MP arrested

George Foulkes, the Labour frontbench defence spokesman, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer and being drunk and disorderly near the Houses of Parliament. Mr Foulkes, 51, MP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley, was held in custody at Charing Cross police station, a Scotland Yard spokeswoman said.
