The uncle of the 7-year-old murder victim Nikki Allen was jailed for three years yesterday for terrorising a man he believed was spreading stories about her.

Gregory Prest, 31, accused David Wilkie of starting rumours that Nikki was begging outside a pub before her death.

Newcastle upon Tyne Crown Court was told that he burst into Mr Wilkie's home in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, and armed with a machete smashed windows and a door, shouting: 'I am going to kill you.' Prest, of Hendon, Sunderland, admitted aggravated burglary in an attempt to inflict grievous bodily harm.
