The Right Rev Christopher Mayfield, 57, is to be the new Bishop of Manchester, the Prime Minister announced. He will take over from the Right Rev Stanley Booth-Clibborn, 68, who retired in November after more than 15 years in office.
The bishop, currently Bishop Suffragan of Wolverhampton, will join the diocese after Easter. He is a supporter of the ordination of women.
