NHS drugs 'waste'
The National Health Service is wasting about pounds 100m a year by prescribing drugs by their brand name instead of generically, according to Tom Sackville, Under- Secretary of State for Health. In a written answer he said that for England alone in 1992, the saving could have been up to pounds 80m. When the figures for Scotland and Wales are taken into account, the potential saving could be far higher.
