A PREGNANT nurse who feared her child would be born with cystic fibrosis was sacked for having an abortion, an industrial tribunal in Southampton was told yesterday.

Lesley Weatherson, 26, who has a daughter with the disease, said she was fired when she told her employer she intended to terminate the pregnancy. Mrs Weatherson, of Warsash, Hampshire, is claiming sexual discrimination.

Kenneth West, head of the Peel House nursing home in Stubbington, said he did not even know Mrs Weatherson was pregnant. He had decided not to renew her three-month contract before she left in November last year. The tribunal reserved its decision.
