The number of pensioners with income from company pension schemes in addition to the state pension has risen from 43 per cent in 1979 to 61 per cent in 1991. As a result, since 1979 pensioners' average incomes have risen by 42 per cent, or by 54 per cent after deducting housing costs, the Department of Social Security said.
