BP followed its rival Esso in increasing the price of its petrol by 4.5p a gallon (1p a litre) to take effect from tomorrow. The rise will take BP's maximum 4-star prices to 272p a gallon (59.9p a litre) while unleaded will be 245p a gallon (53.9p a litre).
