The Bilsthorpe colliery disaster, in which three men were killed when the roof of a coal face collapsed on 18 August, was an accident, an inquest jury at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, decided. The coroner said he would be writing to British Coal and the Health and Safety Executive to recommend that 'skin to skin' working of seams was not used without further investigation.
