A frightened witness could be holding vital clues to the killer of Julia Baines, 18, who was murdered early last Thursday on wasteland in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, police said yesterday.

Detectives say a woman's scream was heard near the murder scene and shortly afterwards a female voice yelled 'leave her alone'. Police want the woman who shouted this to contact them. Miss Baines's naked body was discovered two days later. She had been sexually assaulted, beaten and strangled.
