An inquiry was under way last night after two loaded police revolvers were found in a road after apparently falling off the roof of an armed response vehicle at a roundabout. A member of the public discovered the Smith and Wesson weapons in Blackburn, Lancashire, and handed them in.

It is believed the guns were accidentally left on the vehicle roof during a shift changeover.
