The Home Office has rejected for the second time a call by MPs for a body to review applications for retirement on medical grounds of police officers facing disciplinary proceedings.
It accepted the view of the Commons Home Affairs Committee that such retirements damaged public confidence in the police, but said a review board would be expensive and time consuming.
