Police were yesterday investigating the death of a 24-year-old remand prisoner in his cell.

Anthony Shivers, from Glasgow, was found dead at the city's Barlinnie Prison, the Scottish Office said. He is understood to have appeared in court last Thursday on theft and contravention of bail charges.

The cause of death was not clear and police would not say if they considered it suspicious.
