A police marksman in the SO19 firearms squad who suffered a gunshot wound to the groin during a shoot-out in an east London park on Thursday, shot himself with his own gun when he leapt from a car to pursue of a suspected armed robber, police said. He is in a stable condition in the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel.
Scotland Yard said that Michael Hamill, 35, a council worker, of Parnell Road, Bow, east London, will appear before magistrates at Bow today charged with conspiracy to rob. One of the two men arrested at the Flying Scud public house was still being questioned by police last night.
