AN OFF-DUTY policeman was overpowered and forced into the boot of a car after confronting two men trying to steal the wheels off his car, which had broken down on the A74 in southern Scotland. The men set fire to Sgt Bill Sturgeon's car, then drove 70 miles to Carlisle where they abandoned the car with the officer still in the boot.
