More than 32,000 readers of The Independent have joined the Campaign for Democracy since it began 13 days ago, shortly before Lord Falconer of Thoroton insisted there was no "real groundswell" for reform.

We have received 18,757 forms through the post, while 13,416 readers have logged on to the website and signed the petition online.

Readers have expressed their enthusiasm for the campaign and have sent messages of support. One said: "Keep up the good work. This campaign for democratic reform is exactly what British democracy needs right now."

Many have sent messages expressing hope that the Government, which was elected last month with the smallest majority since 1832, will heed the message triggered by the campaign.

The number of people adding their names to the campaign increases by at least a thousand each day.

Make the case for a more equitable voting system directly to the Prime Minister by filling out a form. Your name will be added to the list which will be delivered to Downing Street.

If you want a fairer voting system, visit www.independent.co.uk.
