Arthur Scargill and his National Union of Mineworkers delegation walked out during the address by John Evans, chairman of the Labour Party. Last year, Mr Evans struck the name of Ken Capstick, an activist in the Selby coalfield, off the candidate shortlist for the by- election in the safe Labour seat of Hemsworth.
