Using a Labour Party identity card borrowed from a friend, a north London student infiltrated a speech given by Tony Blair last night and heckled him on the Government's willingness to go to war against Iraq.

With Mr Blair 20 minutes into his address at South Camden Community School, Iain Wilson, 22, who is studying at the London School of Economics, stood up and declared Mr Blair was "missing the point" over the conflict. Mr Blair, who had not mentioned the war, retorted: "This is a democracy and you are entitled to make a speech but I'm making my speech now. You can go and make yours somewhere else."

Outside the building after police and Labour officials had escorted him off the premises, Mr Wilson said: "I just wanted to speak out against the war. I managed to get through the spin and the rules to get my point across."

Inside the school, a number of Labour Party supporters cheered as Mr Wilson, from Seven Sisters, north London, was ejected.

Mr Blair joked about the interruption before completing his speech and leaving to a standing ovation. Earlier, a group of anti-war protesters had gathered at the school but could not confront the Prime Minister because he used a separate entrance.
