Blair's son taken to hospital

Tony Blair's eldest son Euan has been taken to hospital in Barbados suffering from stomach pains, Downing Street said today.

The 22-year-old was apparently taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital near Bridgetown yesterday, but has not undergone surgery and his condition is not believed to be serious.

A Downing Street spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that Euan Blair was taken into hospital with a stomach complaint."

The Prime Minister arrived back in Britain from the family holiday this morning, and is said to be working in Number 10.

Professor Andrew Zbar, a doctor at the hospital, said it was "a bit of a non-story".

He said he hoped Mr Blair's son would be well enough to be discharged today, but would not give any further details.

The Blairs have been enjoying a three-week break in the Caribbean, including a stay at Sir Cliff Richard's holiday home.

Mrs Blair is understood to have remained in Barbados with her son as he recovers.

Euan recently accepted a place at prestigious US college Yale to do a two-year masters in international relations.

In May he carried out an unpaid internship in Washington, after completing his undergraduate ancient history degree at Bristol University.
