Liberal Democrat treasury spokesman Vince Cable claimed today many bankers were so "ashamed" by the credit crunch that they would vote for his party's plans to crack down on the industry.
Dismissing suggestions that proposals to close tax loopholes and shake up the finance sector would spark an exodus from the City, Mr Cable said many bankers would support his reforms.
In an interview with FT Weekend, he said: "I meet enormous numbers of bankers who are terribly embarrassed by what happened, ashamed in many ways they let their industry get into this state."
