After a torrid week, David Cameron is relieved to be welcoming back Liz Sugg, his head of operations, who has just come back from a three-month sabbatical.
With the departure of Steve Hilton, and before him Andy Coulson, there are fewer people in Downing Street now whom Mr Cameron really trusts.
Ms Sugg has an eye for potentially embarrassing situations and should help him to avoid more photocalls with shuttlecocks and unnecessary talk about buying pasties. She has been with him since 2005 and has his ear. That alone is vital in avoiding the pitfalls of instant response in an age of 24-hour media.
