Nick Clegg's promise to end the detention of children in immigration centres has not been met, with figures from the Home Office showing that six children were held in detention centres in June.
Four, three of them under five, were detained at Tinsley House near Gatwick Airport after being refused entry to Britain. The UK Border Agency said they had been held until they could be put on a flight out of the country. Two aged 17 were detained at removal centres.
The Refugee Council said: "You either want an end to child detention or you don't. We do feel progress has been slow." The Deputy Prime Minister had made it a personal mission to end the detention of children in immigration centres by May.
