WOMEN DOCTORS: The proportion of women hospital doctors who were obstetricians and gynaecologists in the five years from 1987 to 1991 ranged from 8.9 to 9.4 per cent, Brian Mawhinney, Minister for Health, said.

HONOURS: 107 MPs have been knighted since May 1979, John Major said.

LIFERS: At the latest count - last June - 2,904 men and 96 women were serving life sentences.
