FREE LUNCH: A third of all pupils taking school meals in English nursery and primary schools were receiving free meals in January, Eric Forth, Parliamentary Under- Secretary of State for Education, told Joan Ruddock (Lab, Lewisham Deptford).

Of the 1.82 million meals served in primary and nursery schools in January, 681,000 were free, Mr Forth said. Of the 1.16 million meals served in English secondary schools in the same month, 294,000 were free.
