LASER BOMBS: Tenders for the supply of new advanced low level laser-guided bombs were announced last night by Jonathan Aitken, the minister for defence procurement. They would be more flexible and accurate, and effective against a wider range of possible targets.

In a separate reply, Archie Hamilton, the minister for the armed forces, confirmed the report in the Independent that use of Trident for sub-strategic nuclear missiles was being considered.
