COUNCIL TAX APPEALS: More than four out of five initial appeals against council tax banding in England have been settled, the Local Government minister, David Curry, disclosed. "By December 31, 704,888 appeals had been settled - 81.5% of those rec eived during the initial period," he said. This covered the eight months from April 1993 in which taxpayers were allowed to put in pleas for a change in their property's original banding. He hoped that the remainder would be settled by the summer.
