COMMUNITY CASH: More than 300 new schemes to help ethnic minority communities will share about £30m of Government cash, the Home Secretary, Michael Howard, disclosed. This was in addition to £53m in the coming year for existing projects, the vast majority of which will continue to be funded until 1996-97. The new money will help provide 1,800 teachers, 300 classroom assistants, 900 project workers and access to social services and jobs, he said. The cash is available under a scheme designed to help projects which tackle language and cultural barriers, and 95% is for education schemes, mainly teaching English to schoolchildren and other ethnic minority members.
