TAX BREAKS: Plans to allow tax breaks on share options to part- time directors have been abandoned, Sir George Young, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, disclosed. The Government has decided that the schemes would apply only to part-time employees.

FERRIES GRANT: Ian Lang, Secretary of State for Scotland, announced a revenue deficit grant of £8.3m for ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne in 1995-96, which took into account the proposed closure of the Kyle of Lochalsh-Kyleakin service when the Skye Bridge opens later this year.
