NUCLEAR BOMBS: Britain is to withdraw its WE177 free-fall nuclear bombs from service by the end of 1998, ending the RAF's nuclear capability. Nicholas Soames, Minister for the Armed Forces, said Britain's sole nuclear deterrent from then on would be the Trident submarine fleet.
