Emergency services and police were called to the Palace of Westminster on Saturday night after a man was seen on the roof.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: “At 9.15pm officers were made aware of a man trespassing on the roof at the Palace of Westminster. London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service are in attendance.“

It was not clear what motive lay behind the man’s actions.

In 2008, protesters against a new runway at London’s Heathrow Airport caused a security incident by scaling the roof.
