From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. When launching her bid to become leader just two weeks ago, Ms May joked that her then potential rival's deal making skills left a little to be desired.
She said: "Boris negotiated in Europe. I seem to remember last time he did a deal with the Germans, he came back with three nearly-new water cannon".
She was referring to Mr Johnson's controversial decision to buy three used water cannons from the German federal police as London Mayor last year for £218,205.
He claimed the money was well spent because it saved the city the £2.3m cost to order them new - but this did not impress Ms May who blocked their use by any English or Welsh police force as Home Secretary.
Mr Johnson's leadership ambitions were sabotaged at the last moment by his former ally Michael Gove who announced he would run for the leadership instead just hours before Mr Johnson was set to declare.
Many had it predicted it would be the final setback for Mr Johnson's career - which previously saw him being fired from his shadow minsterial role for lying - but the MP bounced back once again to get the pretensious job in charge of Britain's international relations.
People on Twitter could not believe their ears:
Mr Johnson's appointment was one of several key appointments for Brexiteers as David Davis and Liam Fox also get new cabinet roles for Leaving the European Union and International Trade.
