Tory MP protests over 'police raid'

A Conservative MP claimed police entered his Commons office yesterday without a search warrant demanding to examine private constituency correspondence. Daniel Kawczynski's protest follows the arrest two months ago of the Tory frontbencher Damian Green in connection with a leak inquiry.

Mr Kawczynski, the MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham, said he was "appalled" by the actions of police who were investigating white powder being sent to the Schools Secretary, Ed Balls. He told the Commons: "To my great embarrassment... I handed over the letter they demanded."

The MP's version of events was disputed by the Metropolitan Police, who said an officer entered his office by appointment and had permission to remove the letter.
