Amber Rudd admits deportation targets are used by Home Office after denying it

Amber Rudd faced fresh calls to resign after a report emerged contradicting her claims that the Home Office does not have targets for deportations.

The Home Secretary was summoned to parliament to face MPs' questions amid allegations she misled a key Commons committee.

She admitted targets had been used "locally' but were "not published targets against which performance was assessed".

The row over the government's immigration policy escalated when Ms Rudd told the Home Affairs Committee that she was not aware of any targets. This contradicted evidence given by representatives of immigration workers to the same committee.

Ms Rudd later caused a stir after appearing to suggest the government's policy in the customs union was not finalised.
