A Protestant was shot dead by republicans in north Belfast last night, bringing this year's total of violent deaths to 17.

The man, identified as Norman Truesdale, 39, was shot in a grocery shop on the Oldpark Road just before 8pm. Police were studying film from a security camera working at the time of the raid. A Ford Sierra used in the attack was found in the nearby republican Ardoyne.
