Safeway agreed yesterday to stop Sunday opening at one of its stores after High Court action by a local council.
In the first case to be brought since the European Court of Justice's ruling earlier this week that the trading restrictions in England and Wales do not breach EC law, the chain gave an undertaking to close its shop at Newport, Shropshire, on Sundays from 27 December.
