'Saint' creator dies
LESLIE CHARTERIS, the crime writer whose character Simon Templar became a cult hero in the 1960s television series The Saint, has died aged 85. As a struggling writer he worked as a bus driver, pearl fisher, policeman, gold prospector, rubber planter, tin miner, barman, fairground hand and bridge player. He wrote more than 50 'Saint' adventures.
