A quarter of child pedestrian injuries occur on the journey to and from school, according to a report in New Scientist. The majority of the 21,400 children under 15 who were killed or injured in 1990 met their fate on the 'school run'. The rise in such accidents is prompting more parents to take and collect children from school. UK road Accident statistics for 1990 show that 1,754 pedestrians died on British roads.
