Scientist's NHS pay stopped

Jean-Pierre Allain, a scientist serving a two-year prison sentence in France for distributing Aids-contaminated blood, has had his NHS salary of pounds 50,000 a year stopped.

He was suspended last October on full pay from his post as director of the East Anglian Blood Transfusion Service, after being convicted in a French court for events dating back to 1985 - before his British appointment.
