Rail services to London were disrupted yesterday when part of a timing mechanism similar to those used in IRA bombs was discovered on a railway line in Kent, near Orpington station. Services were halted while the area was searched but nothing else was found. Anti-terrorist officers were trying to establish whether the mechanism was left from one of several devices found in the South-east recently.
