A director of a top City firm of stockbrokers was found murdered at his east London flat, writes Esther Oxford.
Barry Stubbings, 51, had been stabbed to death in the lounge of his home in Whitechapel. Police were called when Mr Stubbings, a director of James Capel, failed to turn up for an appointment.
A police spokesman said yesterday: 'He was due to keep an appointment at work this morning but failed to appear. A colleague at his work contacted his family who said they had no knowledge as to why he missed the appointment.'
Police believe Mr Stubbings' mother was the last person to speak to him. Detectives said they had 'an open mind on the motive for the murder.'
A post-mortem examination will be held today.
