THE GOVERNMENT'S pollution inspectorate yesterday ordered British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) to tighten safety procedures following two releases of radioactive material into the air from its Sellafield site in Cumbria, writes Nicholas Schoon.
The inspectorate issued an enforcement notice ordering BNFL to complete a review and report back by September. This follows two small escapes in March and May during maintenance on a laboratory and alterations to a ventilation stack.
