The hippies said they were determined to stay in their homes at a former nudist campsite at Blackgang Chine on the Isle of Wight, though the landslip cut back the cliff edge 50ft overnight.

One empty caravan and two cars had careered down the cliff and five homes were perched on the edge. Residents said it looked like 'an earthquake zone'.

The hippies were unconcerned. Michael Walters, 27, said: 'It's pretty muddy, but that's all. It's not moving and nor am I'
