A BRITISH soldier was shot as his foot patrol came under attack when it passed along the Drumill Road near Crossmaglen, South Armagh, on the Irish border.
It is not known whether a single sniper opened fire or whether there were a number of shots.
The Royal Ulster Constabulary said the soldier, who was hit in the leg, was 'comfortable' in hospital. The shooting came several hours after an attack on a border checkpoint in Co Fermanagh. No one hurt in that attack.
