Valentine's Day: Trains calling at Wonderful Woking, Darling Dorkins and London Waterlove as South West Rail renames destinations to mark occasion

Passengers were mostly happy about the changes

Rail passengers were treated to a Valentine’s Day treat after a train operator filled stations’ departure boards with romantic messages.

South West Train services updated the names of destinations on departure and arrival boards, with many passengers taking to social media to comment on the idea.

“Loving seeing the pictures of the Valentines messages @SW_Trains stations. Nice to see they have a sense of humour :),” one passenger tweeted.

Another wrote: “I'm always having a go at you when my train is delayed, but loving all the valentines signs today! ;-)”

Woking became “Wonderful Woking” and Darling, “Darling Dorkins”. Meanwhile, London Waterloo was retitled “London Waterlove”.

The travel operator, which has services in Hampshire, Surrey, Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Devon, Somerset and Greater London, took suggestions from its staff and passengers.

A spokesperson for South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance said: "We hope those travelling with us today enjoy their journeys and have a lovely Valentine's Day."

“In the spirit of Valentine’s Day we asked our customers and employees to suggest quirky romance-themed alternatives to our station names,” the spokesperson told the BBC.

“We got some great suggestions, many of which we are displaying on customer information screens across the network for today only.”
