A student who defrauded British Telecom out of nearly pounds 300,000 by illegally winning a phone-in quiz was jailed for two-and-a-half years yesterday.

Mayo Lawal, 27, of Gorton, Greater Manchester, used bogus phone accounts and addresses to win pounds 22,000 and run up phone bills of pounds 270,000.
