An American nuclear submarine which snagged the nets of a fishing boat and dragged it backwards in the Irish Sea broke safety rules for the area, the US said.

The commanding officer of the USS Sturgeon and the officer in charge have been 'disciplined' following an inquiry. The US Navy is also to pay pounds 64,000 damages to the Lupina C, based in Co Down.
