Cygnets being unloaded at Shepperton lock, Surrey, on the first day of swan upping. The 700-year-old ceremony takes place on the River Thames each July when members of the Vintners and Dyers companies, two of the City of London guilds, check and tag the young swans. The bird appears on the companies' banners.
