Schools could lose two teachers each in a government cash squeeze, town halls warned. The Association of Metropolitan Authorities said thousands of jobs were at risk because of tight grant settlements and the council tax. The Association of County Councils said cuts in services seemed inevitable in Cumbria, Oxfordshire, Nottinghamshire, Northumberland, Lancashire, Derbyshire, Cheshire, Avon, Cleveland, Somerset, Durham, Humberside and Warwickshire.
