Kate Clanchy, a 28-year-old teacher from Havering Sixth Form College was one of five poets to be nominated for an Eric Gregory award. Last week, she was presented with pounds 5,000 by V S Naipaul. The other poets nominated were Julia Copus, Alice Oswald, Giles Goodland and Steven Blyth. Clanchy's poems will be featured in the Anvil New Poets edited by Carol Ann Duffy, out this autumn.
